Local Chicago Northwest Theaters
One of the best ways you can help our local theaters is by going to their shows! Here's a list of theater groups that perform on the Northwest Side of Chicago.

- 3rd Dimension Performance Group: Established to create and present quality entertainment that is thought provoking, artistically dynamic and socially relevant. They also provide theater training. Performing all over Chicagoland.
- About Face Theatre: A national leader in producing theater by queer artists that tell queer stories. 1922 W. Irving Park Rd.
- Aguijón Theater Company: Dedicated to creating exciting and meaningful theatrical experiences through the cultural exploration, discussion and performance of high quality Spanish-language and bilingual works. 2707 N. Laramie Ave.
- Albany Park Theater Project: Creates transformative experiences that forge an inclusive community of youth artists, adult artists and audiences to envision and build a more just, equitable and joyful world. 3320 W. Foster Ave.
- The Artistic Home: Performs a diverse range of high-quality classic and newer works that have been well-received by both the general public and theater community. 3054 N. Milwaukee Ave.
- Chicago Kids Company at the Stahl Family Theater: This nonprofit theater produces original musicals based on fairy tales and children’s stories that are geared for children ages 2 to 10 and their families. 5900 W. Belmont Ave.
- Collaboraction Theatre Company: Produces innovative, socially conscious theater that has led the way in theater for social change with Knowledge, Empathy, Dialogue and Action, their proprietary (KEDA) methodology. 1757 N. Kimball Ave.
- Curious Theatre Branch: Dedicated to the creation of new plays and performances and to the production of the annual Rhinoceros Theater Festival. The theater mentors emerging artists and collaborates with them and all contributors to put on unique performances with tickets priced at a pay what you can pricing policy. 4640 N. Drake Ave.
- The Den Theatre: Based in the power of human connection, their mission is to bring artists and audiences together in the spirit of respect, empathy and community. 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave.
- Facility Theatre: Invites audiences to a revitalization of rarely seen works and original plays. This artist-lead collective fosters a collaborative environment that empowers artists to take risks and innovate, while creating a grounded, curious and welcoming home for the community. 1138 N. California Ave.
- Filament Theatre: Its mission is to create a more equitable society by celebrating and amplifying the perspectives and experiences of young people through the performing arts. 4041 N Milwaukee Ave.
- The Gift Theatre: Shares impossible-feeling stories with naked honesty, emotion, true ensemble artistry and radical inclusivity. 4041 N. Milwaukee Ave
- The Imposters Theatre: Stages stories at the crossroads of retrospect and innovation, where the fantastic collides with the everyday. In order to better our discourse, our relationships and ourselves, they aim to inspire an urgency for the arts through the power of theater. Performances at various locations in Chicago.
- International Voices Project: Champions the work of global playwrights by creating opportunities to experience new and contemporary international plays. Performs in several venues in and around Chicago.
- Invictus Theatre Company: A nonprofit whose mission is to create theater that promotes a better understanding of language. 3014 W. Irving Park Rd.
- Promethean Theatre Ensemble at the Den Theatre: Produces and develops ensemble-focused theater that uses vibrant language with dynamic and purposeful storytelling. They select a service organization to support and promote with each production, linking ideas within the play to real-world efforts to address challenges in our communities. 1331 N. Milwaukee Ave.
- Theater Oobleck: "No director. New works. Free if you're broke. Thirty-five years." An artistic collective dedicated to producing and performing original works of theater for the benefit of, and at low or no cost to, the members of the Chicago community and beyond. All their works are created and developed by members of the Oobleck ensemble. Performs in theaters around Chicago and the Midwest.
- Trap Door Theatre: Committed to seeking out challenging and obscure works and using diverse voices to mix established and imaginative techniques that illustrate the absurdities of living in today’s society. 1655 W. Cortland St.
- Urban Theater Company: A cultural hub rooted in Humboldt Park that amplifies the voices of the Puerto Rican Diaspora and BIPOC communities while archiving Chicago history and incubating new work through storytelling, mentorship and education. 2620 W. Division St.

- Hottix: Buy discounted tickets to shows at many local Chicago theaters.
- SmarTix by League of Chicago Theatres: A free ticket service for Chicago-area university and college students.
- Chicago Shakes: Discounted $30 tickets at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater for those aged 30 and under (buy up to two discounted tickets per show and bring someone over 30 as your guest, if you wish!).
- Steppenwolf - Student Discounts: Offers $15 tickets for college and university students, $5 tickets for high school students, discount packages for twenty-somethings, and free tickets for ushers.
- Saints Chicago: Donate your time as a theater usher for free tickets to a show. Opportunities at over 150 venues, large and small, in the Chicagoland area.
- Curious Theatre Branch: This theater provides tickets priced at a pay what you can pricing policy.
- Theater Oobleck: This artistic collective provides tickets at low or no cost to members of the Chicago community and beyond.
Stay Informed + Take Action

Arts Alliance provides ways to fight against federal cuts:
- Arts Alliance Quorum: Stay informed about activism opportunities, support campaigns and contact your elected officials
- Federal Rapid Response: Helps people stay up-to-date on the ever-evolving federal arts and culture landscape and provides opportunities and resources for taking action and staying notified.
- Rapid Response Toolkit: Use this amazing resource to use social media, community forums and conversations with friends and neighbors to share why the arts matter to you.
Donate Money or Time

These organizations are helping and advocating for Chicago theatres and artists. Donate your time or money to make an impact!
- Arts Alliance Illinois: Support them in their effort to 1) advocate for the creative sector's financial and policy interests, 2) advocate for creative workers, 3) ensure access to arts education for all of Illinois' K-12 students, 4) help the creative sector navigate public funding, and 5) conduct research about and for the creative sector.
- The League of Chicago Theatres: An alliance of more than 200 theaters that leverages its collective strength to support, promote and advocate for Chicago’s theater industry. Through their work, they ensure that theater continues to thrive in Chicago.
- 3Arts: Their programs are designed to support artists in multiple and tiered ways—through validation, promotion, residencies, project support, and unrestricted cash grants that let them know their risk-taking and determination are deeply valued. Since 2007, 3Arts has supported thousands of artists, focusing on women artists, artists of color, and Deaf and disabled artists.
- Albany Park Theater Project: This group creates transformative experiences for a community of youth artists, adult artists and audiences. Donate to support their work in this, along with college counseling for low-income students, youth employment, free tutoring and mentorship, and free programs for hundreds of Chicago Public School students a year.
- Saints Chicago: The Saints is a non-profit, volunteer organization that serves the Chicagoland performing arts community by providing ushers for over 150 venues, large and small. In return for their time, these ‘Saints’ earn a seat to some of the finest theater, music and dance in the country.
