Meet the Team

Editorial Team

Hannah Jurowicz

Director
Hannah is a civil rights lawyer, mentor, songwriter and poet. She grew up on the Northwest Side of Chicago, traveled the world, and returned to the city that has always been her home. Hannah is adept at listening deeply and translating what she hears into compelling narratives. She uses storytelling to build bridges: so we know our neighbors, learn about everyday people making a difference and put a face on the systemic issues in the news.

Carl Vogel

Editor in Chief
Carl Vogel is an editor, writer and communications strategist for public policy and social change. He and his family have lived in the Portage Park neighborhood for more than 20 years. Carl believes that stories build community and wisdom; that if you truly love this country, you must honor democracy in all its messy glory; and that post-punk is arguably the crowning achievement of rock music and an effective blueprint for life and art. He roots for the underdogs, the weirdos, the oppressed and the Chicago Cubs.

Suzy Jackson

Writer
Suzy is a firm believer in the power of storytelling. Whether she is crafting a brand story as an advertising Creative Director or finishing a chapter in her next novel, she is a dedicated writer. She was born and raised in Chicagoland and has lived in Portage Park with her husband and beloved dog for more than a decade. Her son lives in nearby Lakeview. She is thrilled to be part of this team bringing untold stories into the light and bringing more truth to our collective narrative.

Tracy Seglin

Writer
A lifelong Chicagoan, Tracy now resides in Sauganash. She’s been a freelance writer for 20+ years and counts local cultural institutions and social service agencies among her fave clients. As much as she enjoys writing, she loves the listening part best—hearing people’s stories. In these trying times, Tracy finds comfort in mutual aid work, pups, cheeeeesy carbs, yelling during rallies and getting lost in silly wildlife cam footage.

Emma Poe

Editor
Emma is a long-time resident of Logan Square. With a degree in environmental sociology, she is devoted to ecological matters, animal rights and environmental causes, including environmental justice. Additionally, she is a passionate advocate for social equality and democracy. Emma was thrilled to team up with Amplify to contribute her research, creative writing and editing experience into telling the stories of our neighbors in the hopes of fostering empathy, fellowship, respect and compassion in our community.

Joel Rapaport

Volunteer Coordinator
Joel is a lawyer, connector and problem solver who has spent his career helping businesses navigate complexity with clarity and purpose. He’s also spent the past 10+ years following his partner—a neuroscience professor dedicated to improving outcomes for children across the country—because, to Joel, that’s about as worthy a problem as there is to solve. A lifelong learner and creative spirit, Joel finds joy in songwriting, listening deeply to others’ music, meeting new people, and exploring what makes them tick. When he’s not immersed in legal work, creative pursuits, or meaningful conversations, he’s likely reading a book or walking his rescue pup.
